We start all our days at 6am to give us ample time to rest and enjoy the sights. We have a cold breakfast and hot
dinner everyday. Lunch will be a series of energy snacks along the way while hiking.
Day 1 & 2 Mark will meet you at the airport holding a Talamanca Treks sign. As a group we will make our way to
base camp using public transportation, eating at restaurants and sleeping one night in a hotel. In the morning of
the second day we will hike the 10.2km to base camp where we make final preparations.
Day 3- The trek starts off into the San Agustin reserve, where we hike for the first hour and fifteen minutes. We
pass over the Barreal ridge and down to the Barreal stream, where we cross into the Cabecar Indian Reservation.
The next hour takes us over the Morado ridge into the Pacuare valley. At the river we will stop to eat and swim. We
cross over the river using an old 80m hammock bridge, and head up the Attiro ridge for another hour. We set up
camp on a vista point half way up the ridge.
Day 4- We head up the Attiro ridge and pass over the Moravia saddle into the Chirripo valley. After three hours of
hiking we come upon the Chirripo River. We follow our trail to the west along the river for three more hours. We
camp along the river.
Day 5- We continue along the Chirripo River for six hours passing the remote Cabecar village of Sitio Hilda. We set
up camp along the icy head waters of the Chirripo River at the base of Paso de Los Indios.
Day 6- Day of rest. Bake bread on the fire for the remainder of the trip. Wash our bodies and clothes. Heal our
wounds. Relax and take in the energy and beauty of this magical place in the heart of Costa Rica. Two days away
from civilization in all directions.
Day 7- We start our ascent of the continental divide at the headwaters of the Chirripo River on the Atlantic slope of
the Talamanca Mountains (1,400m). After six hours of tough up hill climbing we set up camp near a small spring at
2,500m. At this altitude and location, twelve hours from the nearest person, we have a great opportunity to see the
best wildlife life in Costa Rica, including the famous Quetzal and the Danta, cousin to the Rhino.
Day 8- We ascend six more hours to the Uran ridge at 3,300m, about 15km northeast of Cerro Chirripo. We camp
near a small spring just outside the National Park..
Day 9- Pass over the Uran ridge using Paso de Los Indios and down the Pacific slope to San Gerardo. We set up
camp in San Gerardo. You are welcome to join us, or you may want to rent a room in a hotel.
Day 10- Bus to San Isidro or San Jose.
