Talamanca Treks

Trips
We start all our days at 6am to give us ample time to rest and enjoy the sights. We have a cold breakfast and hot
dinner everyday. Lunch will be a series of energy snacks along the way while hiking.

Day 1 & 2 Mark will meet you at the airport holding a Talamanca Treks sign.  As a group we will make our way to
base camp using public transportation, eating at restaurants and sleeping one night in a hotel.  In the morning of
the second day we will hike the 10.2km to base camp where we make final preparations.

Day 3- The trek starts off into the San Agustin reserve, where we hike for the first hour and fifteen minutes. We
pass over the Barreal ridge and down to the Barreal stream, where we cross into the Cabecar Indian Reservation.
The next hour takes us over the Morado ridge into the Pacuare valley.  At the river we will stop to eat and swim. We
cross over the river using an old 80m hammock bridge, and head northeast down the Pacuare River for an hour and
a half. We set up camp on a sandy beach along the river.

Day 4- Continue down the Pacuare River for three hours. Cross over the Moravia River using a cable bridge and
shortly come to the mouth of the Vereh River.  Here we safely cross a difficult ford in the Pacuare River.  We hike up
the steep and narrow Vereh valley until we reach the waterfall.  We set up camp above the falls.

Day 5-  Continue up the Vereh River for two hours.  Visit our neighbor's house and have a typical Costa Rican
lunch.  After lunch we walk another hour up river to Base Camp on the San Agustin reserve.  Family dinner at base
camp.

Day 6- Breakfast at base camp.  Hoseback ride to Jicotea while enjoying the views.  Bus to Turrialba or San Jose.

Special Notes:
All trips from May to December stick  to the ridges, dipping down to the Vereh waterfall and heading back up the
next ridge.  Trip length and price remain the same.

Do to the nature of the terrain and the dangers of flash floods in river valleys and icy wind storms at higher
altitudes all backpackers are expected to be lively on their feet and in a sober state of mind in times of pressure.

Our trips are not lead in the typical manner of guided trips.  We go as a team, and it can only work as a team effort.
Everyone carries their share of the weight and performs their share of camp duties.  We all work together in keeping
group moral up if the going gets tough.
