Talamanca Treks
Hiking, Camping, Backpacking & Horseback Riding in Backcountry Costa Rica
|
We start all our days at 6am to give us ample time to rest and enjoy the sights. We have a cold breakfast and hot
dinner everyday. Lunch will be a series of energy snacks along the way while hiking.
Day 1 & 2 Mark will meet you at the airport holding a Talamanca Treks sign. As a group we will make our way to
base camp using public transportation, eating at restaurants and sleeping one night in a hotel. In the morning of
the second day we will hike the 10.2km to base camp where we make final preparations.
Day 3- The trek starts off into the San Agustin reserve, where we hike for the first hour and fifteen minutes. We
pass over the Barreal ridge and down to the Barreal stream, where we cross into the Cabecar Indian Reservation.
The next four hours are along the scenic Morado ridge. We set up camp on a vista point overlooking the Pacuare
valley.
Day 4- We continue along the Morado ridge for four hours until we reach the Pacuare River. We follow the river
west for another hour and then cross over river using a cable and vine bridge. Here we set up camp and then go to
enjoy the hot springs.
Day 5- We ascend Cerro Mirador for seven hours coming to the top at 2035m. We set up camp in the cloud forest
under giant cedar trees, listen to the jilguerro song birds and perhaps spot a Quetzal.
Day 6- Descend from Mirador following the Atirro River for six and a half hours, passing through the ghost town of
Esperanza to the town of Atirro. Take the bus to Turrialba or San Jose.
